Earthquake Gas Shutoff Valves
Installation, repair and replacement of seismic gas shutoff valves for homes and commercial properties.
What to expect
Plan valve work around the existing gas system.
An earthquake, or seismic, gas shutoff valve is designed to close the gas supply when shaking reaches its activation threshold. It is a component of the gas system, not a guarantee against earthquake damage or a substitute for responding to a suspected leak.
Anytime Rooter provides installation, repair and replacement of seismic gas shutoff valves. Call about adding a valve, visible damage to an existing assembly or a valve-related concern. A gas interruption alone does not establish that the valve needs replacement.
A better starting point
Assess the valve, piping and available access.
The starting point is the existing valve, its identification, accessible piping and connections, and the reason for the call. Installation involves planning a suitable location within the existing setup. Repair addresses a serviceable issue where appropriate; replacement involves a valve or assembly that needs changing. The scope is explained after assessment.

Practical service planning
Coordinate the work and the next steps.
Tell us the valve location, whether gas service is currently on, and about any utility visit or prior work. Access to the valve and surrounding piping helps determine how the work can be arranged.
After the work, we explain what was installed, repaired or replaced and any remaining steps affecting the gas supply. If service has been shut off, discuss restoration with SoCalGas. Do not attempt to operate utility equipment or restore service yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Can you install, repair or replace a seismic gas shutoff valve?
Yes. Those services begin with assessment of the existing setup, piping and access. The valve condition and the reason for the call determine the appropriate scope.
Does an existing valve always need replacement?
No. A serviceable problem may allow repair. Damage, the valve condition and the surrounding installation can make replacement more appropriate; the assessment guides that decision.
Does a seismic valve prevent every gas leak?
No. A seismic valve is designed to respond to shaking at its activation threshold. It does not guarantee that piping or appliances will remain undamaged.
What if the gas is off or I suspect a leak?
For a suspected active leak, leave the area and contact SoCalGas from a safe location. Call 911 for immediate danger. Contact SoCalGas about restoration when service has been shut off; contractor valve work is a separate service.
